Luis Cayo Pérez Bueno

Chairman of the Spanish Committee of Representatives of Disabled People (CERMI).

He undertook Legal Studies, specialising in Moral Philosophy and Law, and has a PhD in Company Management from the Free School of Law and Economics. He has worked in the social sector of disability since 1995.

He is the Editor of cermi.es semanal, the online disability newspaper, the Director of the book collections cermi.es, Abyectos, Empero, Telefónica Accesible, Convención ONU and Diversidad e Inclusión.

Mr. Pérez Bueno is also the Vice-Chairman of the National Disability Council and a Member of the Royal Board on Disability and the State Board of Social NGOs.

He is the Chairman of the CERMI Mujeres Foundation, the Rights and Disability Foundation and the Bequal Foundation, Vice-Chairman of the Tertiary Sector Platform, and a Trustee of the ONCE Foundation and the Vodafone Spain Association.

A writer, translator and poet, he has published numerous works, studies and translations, both literary and on social reality and the disability movement. His works include “El Desmantelamiento de la Discapacidad and Otros Escritos Vacilantes” (“Dismantling Disability and Other Hesitant Writings”), published by ElCobre Ediciones.

He co-directed the collective work “Tratado sobre Discapacidad” (“Treaty on Disability”), published by Thomson-Aranzadi in 2007 and the monographic work “Hacia un Derecho de la Discapacidad” (“Towards a Disability Law”), published in November 2009. His latest individual work is “Discapacidad, Derecho y Políticas de Inclusión” (“Disability, Law and Inclusion Policies”), published in February 2010.

In 2011 the Spanish Government’s Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality awarded him the Gold Cross of the Civil Order of Social Solidarity. The newspaper EL MUNDO.es included him on the list of the 500 Most Influential Spaniards in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, in the “Alternative Power” category.
