About the congress

Inclusive University for an inclusive society

Society and the economy today generate a great dynamism that causes continues adaptations to the environment of all institutions and organizations. These changes are affecting significantly to knowledge, learning systems, universities as engines of social change and the whole system of guaranteeing rights and equal opportunities for all people and especially the most vulnerable groups.

Knowledge has come to be seen as the main asset of individuals, organizations and society in general and therefore reach higher levels of education and knowledge, it has become a challenge for the group of persons with disabilities to not lose the contribution of their talent to society and be an active part in building a better world for all people.

Universities are currently living in times of great changes due to the change of educational paradigm. Consolidated the integration of our university system in the European Higher Education Area, there are many challenges to continue to fulfill its role to contribute actively to the development and welfare of our society and especially students, who are now the true protagonists of the change.

Since the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, It has been experienced many changes so that the Article 24, which guarantees the right to education and the development of the personality, talents and creativity of the people with disabilities, is put into effect. Countries need to ensure that persons with disabilities have general access to higher education, vocational training, adult education and learning throughout life without discrimination and on an equal basis with others. Ten years after the adoption of the Convention, there are many countries and universities, they have walked this path of rights and there are also many challenges still pending.

This III Congress aims to pick up the baton from previous editions and take a step more in ideas, strategies, and best practices that allow us to make further progress in models of inclusive universities, prepared to meet the challenges of the Twenty-First Century

We will discuss new concepts such as Smart Inclusive University and issues such as guidance systems and the transition to higher education, programs of university attention to persons with disabilities, employability of university students with disabilities, incorporating the principle of Design for All and Universal Accessibility in university curricula, and the infoaccessibility and research action on disability in Universities. All this in order to continue developing the mandates provided for in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

In the Congress will participate university teachers and researchers on five continents, university staff for the administration and services, university students, technical staff, managerial positions of associations and disability experts and interested people in this area.

We invite all interested people to participate in the Congress, enrolling in it and to participate actively through proposals for communications, posters and open discussion, to learn best practices, researches, proposals and alternatives.

The official languages of the Congress will be Spanish and English.


Meet and discuss the latest theories and models of educational innovation, discuss experiences and best practices of universities around the world in terms of inclusion. At the same time, studies and the most recent and relevant university research about disability, which are assuming progress in improving educational quality and the quality of life of people with disabilities, are in accordance with the mandates provided in the be known International Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities.


  • Reflect and determine the degree of implementation of Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities concerning the Right to Education.
  • The latest research and strategies on inclusive education.
  • Promote improvement in the quality of care services to disability Universities, through knowledge of new techniques and tools, facilitating the exchange of experiences and student participation.
  • Bring together researchers in the field of disability and improving the quality of life of people with disabilities.
  • Encourage direct contact between the different actors involved in policies aimed at persons with disabilities at the University, in order to combine strategies and establish agreements.
  • Advance the inclusion and dissemination in the training curricula on Design for All in the Degree and Postgraduate and its impact on society.
  • Debating the concept of Smart Inclusive University and application of new technologies, so that this new form of interaction with the environment does not discriminate and promote equal opportunities.
  • Advance knowledge of universal accessibility and new tools and digital learning platforms, presenting the latest research and experiences.
  • Meet and discuss best practices in transit programs between the university and the company, which will enhance employability and career development of people with disabilities.
  • Enhance corporate social responsibility of universities in relation to social economy enterprises in the disability sector.
